Green light for Menin Gate renovation

Construction on the Menin Gate – a monument to Commonwealth soldiers with no known grave - started shortly after the guns fell silent in Flanders fields. A hundred years later renovation work is urgently needed.  The Commonwealth war graves commission that manages the monument will pay the lion’s share.  The City of Ieper will invest 300,000 euros.  1.6 million in Flemish cash comes from the tourism and heritage budget.
