Traffic disruption expected as Hi-Viz protesters return

The Brussel-Capital-Elsene Local Police Service expects there to be disruption to traffic in central areas of Brussels on Saturday as a result of the planned demonstration by Hi-Viz protesters. For the third consecutive Saturday Hi-Viz protesters are to gather in Brussels to protest against high fuel prices and falling purchasing power.

The disruption is expected to start in the morning with the area around Brussels’ European institutions expected to be affected first. Police are also prepared for protest on and along the Inner Ring Road and in the city centre.

On the last two Saturdays there were confrontations between the police and the demonstrators on the Belliardstraat and at the crossroads of the Wetstraat and the Kunstlaan.

The Brussels-Capital-Elsene Local Police Service advises motorists to follow its officers’ instruction closely. “We will do all we can to channel traffic underground. If there are tunnel closures drivers should flower the instructions on the overhead signs”.

Motorists are advised to steer clear of the capital and to use public transport wherever possible. Real time information (in Dutch and French) will be available on the polbru.be website.
