Refugee Walk: mysterious footsteps lead to wooden figures

The ngo "Vluchtelingenwerk Vlaanderen" (Flemish Refugee Action) has staged an awareness action this morning to highlight the fate of refugees. In various cities, footsteps lead people to groups of small wooden figures representing people carrying a suitcase. They symbolise the many refugees who died while seeking a better life, explains Eef Heyligen of Vluchtelingenwerk Vlaanderen. This year alone, about 900 refugees died on the Mediterranean Sea. Today's campaign is meant to highlight the so-called Refugee Walk at the end of the month.
