Coca-Cola recalls cans and bottles of soft drinks as they contain high levels of chlorate

The Belgian arm of the multi-national soft drinks company Coca-Cola is recalling a wide range of its products that have been sold in Belgium after high levels of chlorate were found in cans and bottles of the soft drinks. Both cans and glass bottles of Fuze Tea, Fanta, Nalu, Minute Maid, Coca-Cola, Sprite, Tropico and Royal Bliss are being recalled.

The measure also affects the “zero” and “light” versions of the drinks. A full list of all the products that are being recalled can be found on Coca-Cola's website (in Dutch).

How do I know if I need to return cans or bottles that I have bought?

Only cans and bottles with production code numbers from 328G to 338G are being recalled. The production code number can be found underneath the product’s expiry date.

Products with other production codes, be they cans or glass bottles, can consumed safely. Plastic PET bottles, beverage fountains and cartons are not being recalled.

Anyone that has bought a product that is being recalled should return it to the place where they bought it where they will be given a full refund.

The products that are being recalled were sold in both shops and vending machines. They were all produced at Coca-Cola’s factory in Ghent (East Flanders) and have been on sale since last November. Some of drinks were exported to the Netherlands, the UK, Germany, France and Luxembourg.
