Fire rages at block of flats in Brussels’ European District

A serious fire has raged in an apartment block in Belliardstraat in Brussels. The Brussels Fire Service reports that the residents of the block were evacuated and no one was injured in the blaze. Such was the extent of the fire that it is likely that several flats in the block will be declared uninhabitable. 

At around 5:10pm on Wednesday firefighters were called to a serious fire at a block of flats on the Belliardstraat, in Brussels’ European District.

The residents of the block were evacuated and taken to safety. One woman was treated for shock. A gas cylinder exploded while firefighters were extinguishing the blaze. Fortunately, no firefighters were injured.

The cause of the fire is not yet known. According to the Fire Service, it is likely that some of the flats in the block will be declared uninhabitable.
