Code Yellow weather warning issued
The Royal Meteorological Institute has issued Code Yellow weather warning as storms bringing heavy rain, hail and gusts of high winds sweep across the country. Some areas could be subject to exceptionally high levels of rainfall in a short space of time. Gust of winds are excepted to reach as much as 65 km/h. However, the spell of wet stormy weather will be short-lived with the summer set to return from Monday. Today a front bringing with it rain and thunder storms will sweep across the country from west to east. Some of the showers could be heavy and accompanied by hail and gusts of high wind.
Coastal areas already got their share early on Saturday morning with the rain reaching easten areas by lunchtime. KMI’s Code Yellow weather warning will remain in force until 11pm on Saturday. Winds will be generally light with the exception of during storm periods when there could be gusts of up to 65 km/h. Top temperatures will vary between 21°C in coastal areas and 27°C in the extreme south and the Kempen area of Antwerp and Limburg provinces.
There will be some rain and possibly storms on Saturday evening in areas south of the rivers Sambre and Meuse. Elsewhere it will remain dry on Saturday night with temperatures falling to between 12°C and 17°C.
From Sunday and certainly from the end of the weekend the summer will make its return. Sunday will remain dry will cloud but some bright spells. In coastal areas it will be sunny on Sunday afternoon. Maximum temperatures will vary between 21°C on the beaches and the High Fens and 26°C in central areas.
An area of high pressure will define weather conditions from Monday with warm area being channelled in our direction. Temperatures will rise, reaching 35°C on Thursday. The second heatwave of the summer is on its way.
