Fire guts building in the heart of Brussels

A building near to the De Brouckereplein in the heart of Brussels has been destroyed by fire. The Brussels Fire Service reports that no one was injured in the blaze that started in the early hours of Monday morning. It is still unclear what caused the fire.

The Brussels Fire serviced received a call about the fire at around 3:20am on Monday morning. On their arrival fire fighters were confronted with a large blaze that had spread throughout the four-story that is currently unoccupied. Neighbouring buildings were evacuated while fire fighters tackled the blaze.

They were able to prevent it spreading to adjacent buildings. However their roofs sustain some fire damaged and there was some further damage from the water used to put out the fire. The building where the fire broke out has been completely destroyed and is in danger of collapsing.

The fire was completely extinguished by around 6 am.
