A good evening for our Europa League clubs

It was an evening of relative success for the two Belgian teams still competing in the Europa League. In the first-leg of their respective ties, KRC Genk drew 0-0 away at Slavia Prague, while later in the evening Club Brugge beat Red Bull Salzburg 2-1 in Bruges’ Jan Bredyel Stadium.

Club Brugge’s victory came despite them having gone behind to a first half goal from Salzburg’s Junuzovic on 17 minutes. The half finished 0-1 to Red Bull Salzburg. However, the tide was set to turn and Denswil put the Belgian champions level on 64 minutes.

Club Brugge’s winning goal came from Wesley on 81 minutes. Club Brugge go into next week’s second leg in Austria with a one-goal advantage.

KRC Genk keep clean sheet in Prague

The club currently at the top of the Belgian first division KRC Genk kept a clean sheet during the away leg of their tie against Slavia Prague. The 0-0 score line puts Genk in a strong position for next week’s return leg.

The question on everyone’s lip is whether Genk will play the return leg with or without Alejandro Pozuelo. He was brought on after 57 minutes and proved his worth. The Spaniard wants to leave the club for a lucrative contract abroad. Genk want him to stay until the end of the season.

One man that hopes that Pozuelo will pack his bags before next week is the Slavia Prague Coach Tripovsky. He told the daily ‘Het Laatste Nieuws’ that he hopes that Pozuelo will leave for Toronto in the next few days as it was evident after just a few seconds how much quality he possesses as a player.
