Embassy attack was planned for Monday or Tuesday

The Federal Judicial Authorities say that a man detained on Saturday on suspicion that he was planning to carry out an attack on the American Embassy in Brussels was planning to use a car to attack the building. The attack was planned for either Monday or Tuesday of this week.

On Saturday afternoon M.G. was detained on suspicion of planning an attack on the American Embassy in Brussels. The Judicial Authorities said that there were “firm indications” that this was the case.

It has since emerged that the man, a Belgian with Jihadi sympathies, was planning to use his car in the attack.

The fact that he was planning to attack one of the most secure buildings in the country with his car and without explosives might explain the man’s motives. Suicide may have been the main motivating factor here.
