Liverpool bump into KRC Genk, Club Brugge meet Real Madrid
Belgian champions Racing Genk and runners-up Club Brugge are happy with their Champions League draw, as they meet some big names of European football. Genk meet Liverpool, while Bruges will take on Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.
Champions League winners Liverpool FC are coming to Limburg in October, as they are playing in Genk on the 23rd. Genk also meet Red Bull Salzburg of Austria and Napoli of Italy. Genk are happy with the draw: Napoli is team that will trigger enthusiasm among their large Italian community, and it's the club of Red Devil Dries Mertens. Genk are not playing their top football yet in the domestic league, and hope to get some points in their home games especially. Genk start in Salzburg.
Club Brugge were equally happy after the draw, though their job won't be easy: Real Madrid, Paris SG and Galatasaray of Turkey. Bruges fans can look forward to seeing stars in action like Eden Hazard (Real) and Kylian Mbappé and Neymar (PSG).
It is not sure how far Club Brugge can come, but they refer to last season's Champions League campaign, where they also got points against top teams. The six matches will give Bruges a new financial boost. Bruges start at home against Galatasaray, a game that could be important for third place already.
