Brussels hit-and-run: victim identified, vehicle found

Significant progress has been made in the investigation into Sunday morning’s fatal hit-and-run in Brussels. In a statement released on Monday morning, the Brussels Judicial Authorities said that both the driver and the victim have been identified and the vehicle involved in the hit-and run has been trace. The victim is a 21-year-old Romanian national. Meanwhile, the driver is still being sought by police. 

The accident happened at around 5am on Sunday morning. The victim was crossing the road at a zebra crossing when he was hit by a car. The driver failed to stop. The victim died at the scene.  

Police launched an investigation on Sunday in an effort to trace the driver.

Speaking on Monday morning Denis Goeman of the Brussels Judicial Authorities told journalists that “In the late afternoon CCTV images lead us to find a suspicious car on the Helihavenlaan in Brussels”. Mr Goeman added that police are currently trying to find the driver of the vehicle.

Meanwhile, the victim’s family have been informed of the 21-year-old’s death.
