Extra trains to and from this summer’s big music festivals

As in previous years the Belgian rail company NMBS will be providing extra services to and from the big summer music festivals.  Under the slogan “Travel in style to the festivals” at total of 76 extra services will be laid on and capacity on other services that serve the towns, villages and cities where the festivals will be increased. Those with tickets to some of this summer’s festivals will be able to purchase cut price rail tickets.

The extra trains will take music-lovers to 13 big summer music festivals, one of which (Werchter Boutique) has already taken place.   Still to come are Rampage Open Air, Graspop, Pennezakkenrock, Couleur Café, Rock Werchter, Dour, Hype-O-Dream, TW Classic, Tomorrowland, Esperanzah, Reggae Geel and Pukkelpop.

Last summer more than 200,000 festival-goers took the train to get them to and from the festival(s) of their choice.  The 76 extra trains are good for an extra 75,000 which should make the journey to and from the festival sites all the more comfortable.

NMBS has also given one of its trains a re-spray. The design for the exterior of the “festival train” comes from a passenger that won a competition organised by the rail company

Information about the extra festival trains and other rail services can be found on the NMBS website.
