KRC Genk beaten at home, Club Brugge victorious in Ostend

Four of this weekend’s Belgian First Division games were played on Saturday evening. In the 6pm kick-off Club Brugge enjoyed a 0-2 win away at KV Oostende. Bruges’ other top flight team Cercle Brugge had less luck, losing 1-3 at home to KV Kortrijk. The League Champions KRC Genk lost 0-2 at home to Zulte Waregem. The evening’s other match saw KAS Eupen and Waasland-Beveren take their first point of the new season. There the match ended in a 1-1 draw. 

Club Brugge continued their strong start to the season with a 0-2 victory in the West Flemish derby against KV Oostende. Both Club’s goals came in the last 20 minutes of the game.

Okereke opened the scoring for Club Brugge on 72 minutes with the South African Percy Tau making it 0-2 for the visitors 10 minutes later. With 3 straight wins Club Brugge are top of the league with 9 points from 3 games. However, they could be joined by Standard de Liège and R Antwerp FC if they win their respective games on Sunday. KV Oostende have 6 points. 

Disappointment for KRC Genk

The League Champions KRC Genk suffered their second consecutive defeat. This time the were beaten at home by Zulte Waregem.  

Zulte Waregem opened the scoring early with a goal from Bjordal on 6 minutes. Berahino scored Zulte Waregem’s second goal on 78 minutes. The result sees Zulte Waregem take their first points on the new season. They now have 3 points as do KRC Genk. 

Second half goals do the business for KV Kortrijk

3 goals in the second half were enough to ensure KV Kortrijk of victory in the West Flemish derby against Cercle Brugge. Cercle Brugge had taken the lead after Saadi scored on 18 minutes. The first half finished 1-0 in the home side’s favour.

It was a very different picture in the second half though. Ajagun equalised for KV Kortrijk 4 minutes in and Van der Bruggen put the visitors ahead on 55 minutes. Hervé Kage’s goal on 90 minutes made for a final score of 1-3 to KV Kortrijk. KV Kortrijk have 4 points from 3 games. Cercle Brugge have failed to pick up a single point. 

KAS Eupen and Waasland-Beveren share the points

Saturday evening’s 1-1 draw sees both KAS Eupen and Waasland-Beveren pick up their first points of the new season.

Badibanga opened the scoring for Waasland-Beveren on 28 minutes. Toyokawa equalised for the Pandas on 54 minutes.
