Elections 24: 6,550 candidates standing for election on 9 June
Political parties have submitted no fewer than 330 lists of candidates for the federal, regional and European elections. The Federal Interior Ministry reports that a total of 6,550 candidates are standing for election on 9 June.
The lists for the elections to the European Parliament, the House of Representatives and the regional and German Language Community parliaments were submitted last Friday and Saturday.
94% of the lists were submitted digitally. The submission of candidate lists was provisionally closed at 4pm on Monday. The parties have another three days (until 4pm on Thursday 18 April) to correct any irregularities there might be concerning list and/or candidates.
