Flanders’ largest water company says that it is ready for another dry summer

The largest supplier of mains water in our region De Watergroep says that it now has sufficient water reserves to cope with another hot and dry summer like that of 2018. De Watergroep serves around 1.3 million homes in West Flanders, East Flanders, Limburg and Flemish Brabant.  The company’s Director-General told VRT News that “We are in a better position than we were last year”.

De Watergroep’s reservoirs are fuller than they were this time last year.  Then work was being carried out on the water company’s biggest reservoir at Kluizen (photo above) in East Flanders.

Although ground water levels are still lower than normal, De Watergroep isn’t too concerned.

Both the summer of 2017 and the summer of 2018 were exceptionally dry. However, "The dry summers has made people more conscious about the importance of water”, the boss of our region’s biggest water company added.
