'Girl' wins Discovery Award at European Film Awards

The Debut film from the Ghent (East Flanders) film director Lukas Dhont has taken the European Discovery Award at the European Film Awards in Seville, Spain. The European Film awards are considered to be the European version of the Oscars. 

The film had also been nominated in the Best European Film Category, but was this prize, along with 4 other awards, went to Pawel Pawlikowski’s ‘Cold War’. The lead in ‘Girl’ Victor Polster was also nominated for the Best Actor Award. However, this went to Marcello Fonte for his role in ‘Dogman’. 

Belgians involved in other award-winning film

The best European comedy film is the French-British-Belgian co-production "The Death of Stalin". The film is directed by Armando Ianucci and has Micheal Palin among its cast. The Belgian contribution came from the Brussels production company La Compagnie Cinématographique.
