Man dies after being stabbed during dispute with neighbours

A dispute between neighbours in the Boudewijnpark area of the West Flemish municipality of Zonnebeke ended in the death of a 70 year-old man. The man was stabbed and died at the scene. Two people have been detained on suspicion of murder.

The exact circumstances are as yet unclear and are now the subject of an investigation by the West Flemish Judicial Authorities. A police surgeon was sent to the scene on Thursday evening as were forensic experts.

The paramedics tried to resuscitate the victim at the scene. However, these efforts were to no avail. The street where the man was killed was cordoned off for a time.

Meanwhile, the Judicial Authorities have said that two people have been detained.

"They are suspected of murder”, a Judicial Authorities Spokesman told VRT News.

The victim is reported to have been in conflict with his neighbour for some time. Loud music is reported to have been a source of conflict between the neighbours. However, it is still unclear what lead to the stabbing.
