Parks in Brussels close as KMI warms of storms and gusts of high wind
The Royal Meteorological Institute (KMI) has issued a Code Yellow weather warning for Friday afternoon an Saturday. On Friday afternoon thunder storms and heavy rain are forecast for much of the country with gusts of high wind being forecast for Saturday. All of the parks in the Brussels-Capital Region have been closed as a precautionary measure. The organisers of a number of events that are taking place over the weekend are taking measures to ensure the safety of those attending. However, as yet we have received no reports of events being cancelled due to the weather.
On Friday afternoon and during the early evening a front bring thunder storms and in some areas heavy rain will cross the country. There is a possibility of high winds in some areas. There is a possibility of hail in the southeast. A Code Yellow weather warning is in force in the entire country.
All parks in the Brussels-Capital Region have been closed since 11am and will remain so until 10pm on Saturday.
Once the danger has passed the parks will be inspected and any clear-up work that might be necessary will be carried. Only then will the parks be re-opened.
Brussels Environment advises the public to avoid parks, woodland and forests and to steer clear of trees in general.
High winds expected on Sunday
On Saturday gusts of wind of up to 70 km/h are forecast for the whole country with the exception of Luxembourg Province. In coastal areas wind speeds could reach 80km/h.
Thunder storms are also forecast for Sunday night.
