Scores of arrests as far right march is banned in Brussels

At least 43 people have been arrested in Brussels for attempting to take part in a far right march that has been banned by the authorities.

The protesters are unhappy that the far right Vlaams Belang party is not being included in the new Flemish government that is being set up.  Vlaams Belang has distanced itself from the demonstration.

The Mayor of Brussels, Philippe Close (Francophone socialist), banned the march.  He feared rioting.  A massive police presence has been deployed in the centre of the Flemish and Belgian capital, where no serious incidents have as yet been reported.
