Standard beat Seville, Genk and Anderlecht draw
Three Belgian teams were in action in the Europa League on Thursday evening. Already eliminated Sporting Anderlecht got no further than a goalless draw in their home game against the Slovak side Spartak Trnava.
The result leaves them bottom of their group with 3 points from 3 games. Spartak Trnava also have 3 points and will also play no further part in this season’s Europa League once the group stage is over.
Standard beat Seville in Liège
Thursday evening’s big surprise was Standard de Liège’s 1-0 win at home against the Spanish side Madrid. The result leaves Standard 3rd in their group and level on points with Seville. Which of the two will qualify for the knock out stage will depend on the results of the final group stage games on 13 December. Then Standard travel to Turkey to take on Akhisar Belediyespor, while Seville have a home game against Krasnodar. The only goal of Thursday evening’s game came from Standard’s Moussa Djenepo on 63 minutes. Seville’s Pablo Sarabia was sent off on 69 minutes for his second bookable offence of the game.
KRC Genk throw away a two-goal lead to draw in Malmo
The team currently at the top of the Belgian First Division KRC Genk appeared to be cruising to in Thursday evening’s Europa League match in Malmo.
Goals from Pozuelo on 43 minutes and Paintstil (photo below) on 54 minutes had put the Limburgers 0-2 up against the Swedes. However, 2 goals in 2 minutes from Malmo’s Lewicki on 66 minutes and Antonsson on 68 minutes saw the game end in a 2-2 draw.
KRC Genk remain top of their group with 8 points from 5 games. Malmo are third with 6 points. With just one game to go any of the 4 teams in KRC Genk’s group could still qualify for the knock-out stage.
