Jaouad Achab takes bronze for Belgium at Taekwondo World Championships in Manchester
Belgium has won a bronze medal at the Taekwondo World Championships in the English city of Manchester. The hero of the hour is Jaouad Achab, who took bronze in the under 63kg competition. The medal is Belgium’s first at this year's World Championships.
The 26-year-old already has a built up a distinguished career in his sport. He was World Champion in 2015 and was European Champion twice, in 2014 and 2016.
Jaouad Achab is currently ranked second in the world. He lost 6-3 in the semi-final to the Iranian Saroush Ahmadi.
Ahmadi will take on China’s Shuai Zhao in the final. Both Jaouad Achab and the other defeated semi-finalist, Germany’s Jordannis Konstantinidis, were awarded bronze medals.
