Couple take their wedding snaps at the Colruyt: "It’s where we met!”

Carlo Mestdagh and Sofie Verfaillie from Astene, near Deinze (East Flanders), had their wedding photos taken in a rather unusual location.  They opted for the local Colruyt supermarket. It is where the couple met when they both worked there. "For me it was love at first sight, but I had to be very patient," Carlo says.

Carlo Mestdagh was working at the Colruyt branch in Deinze, when he was introduced to a new colleague. Sofie Verfaillie started working there as a student. "When I saw her, it was love at first sight," Carlo explains “though I had to be very patient. I had to ask her out for a date on several occasions before she took the bait."

Customers were astonished

One thing led to another and last Saturday Sofie and Carlo got married. The lovebirds thought it only right to have their wedding photos taken at the Colruyt store, where it all began. Customers who were shopping at the time were able to witness their special moment. "Many were just looking on. There was even one girl who told her mother that I looked like a princess in my wedding dress" says Sofie.

Carlo and Sofie also liked the fact that their colleagues could enjoy their special day in this way. "It was the perfect time to show off our best clobber for once. It was a change from my grey overalls."

The wedding photographer needed little convincing to do the photo shoot at the store. "He is a big fan of Duvel beer. In exchange for a photo with a few crates in the background, he immediately agreed."
