Cycling while inebriated is unsafe and can have other serious consequences. In Mechelen, police caught a cyclist with 1.8 per mill in his blood. He promptly lost his driving licence for a period of 2 weeks. The man was riding without lights and also had his mobile phone in his hand and appeared to be filming. When the officers wanted to speak with him, he fled the scene.

Police officers were able to intercept the cyclist a bit further along. He had clearly been drinking too much. After contacting the prosecutor's office, it was decided to revoke the cyclist's driving licence for 15 days. The police also confiscated his bike for 6 hours to prevent him from continuing to drive around drunk.
