Marvel at the beauty of the Royal Greenhouses
As is the custom, Filip, King of Belgians, has thrown open the doors of the Royal Greenhouses at Laken Castle. The greenhouses are open to the general public until 10 May. Photo journalist Alexander Dumarey provides us with a taste of what you can expect!
The Royal Greenhouses at the king's royal residence, Laken Castle, in Brussels are open to the public every spring. This year visitors can file through the greenhouses, make a walk in the palace garden and visit the art studio of the late Queen Elisabeth, King Albert I's queen.
The greenhouses were commissioned by King Leopold II and were built between 1874 and 1902. They cover a hectare and a half and house a unique collection of tropical plants.
