Chlorine leak at Solvay plant in Antwerp
On Sunday morning, there was a chlorine leak at the Solvay plant in the port of Antwerp. The leak was probably caused by a thunderstorm. Fire services said that there has never been any danger for the local residents.
The leak was produced around 6.45 a.m. Firefighters tackled the leak by using water sprays. The leak was probably caused by a thunderbolt.
Only a slight amount of the gas escaped, fire services said, and there was no danger for the local residents. Nobody was injured. The production at the Solvay plant was halted for some time, but was started up again later during the day.
