Belgium’s hockey men through to World Cup semi-final

Belgium’s national men’s hockey team the Red Lions have earned a place in the semi-finals of this year’s Hockey World Cup in India. The Red Lion’s came back from behind to  beat Germany 2-1 and earn a semi-final place against England on Saturday.     

Meetings between Germany and Belgium have always provide plenty of excitement in recent years and Thursday evenings game was no exception. The Red Lions dominated the first quarter, but fell behind when Germany’s Linnekogel left the Belgian keeper Vanasch with no chance.      

However? The Belgians didn’t let this get them down and Hendrickx 5th goal at this year’s World Cup brought our men level during the second quarter.  

Belgium was dominant. Nevertheless, Vanasch was forced to make a couple of good save to prevent the Red Lions for going behind still further.  

Belgium pushed forward during the final quarter. Briels’ shot was saved but Boon was able to score on the rebound. The German’s replace there keeper with an outfield player , but the Belgian defence hold out and for the first time ever our men’s hockey team were through to the semi-final of a world.
