Grenade found on busy road in the port area of Antwerp

There was disruption to traffic on one of the busiest roads into Antwerp on Wednesday morning after a grenade was found on the Noorderlaan. The bomb disposal service DOVO and the Federal Police Forensic Laboratory were sent to the scene and the road was closed to traffic in both directions.       

The grenade was found at around 7am on Wednesday morning. The Noorderlaan was closed between its junctions with the Ekersedijk and the Zomerweg. The explosive device was founds between a parked car and the wall of a commercial building.  

The surrounding area was cordoned off as a precautionary measure. The bomb disposal service has taken away the grenade.
