Bruges nun honoured for helping Texas migrants

The 85-year-old Flemish missionary Marie-Paule Willem has just won the Lumen Christi Award.  The prize awarded by the Roman Catholic Church in the United States honours the Bruges nun on account of her “unconditional and inspiring commitment”. It is worth 50,000 dollars.

The award honours a career that spans six decades.  Marie-Paule has been a missionary since the age of 23.  Today, at the age of 85, she is still active, working in Texas and supporting the poor and migrants.

Sister Marie-Paule intends to use the cash to expand her missionary activities in the US and help to make people more self-sufficient.  The good nun hasn't forsaken her Flemish roots.  Each and every week she speaks with her family in Bruges, but only comes home once every two years.
