Electronic payment system to be out of order for several hours on Sunday night

The company that operates the electronic payment system that enables us to pay for our purchases with a debit of credit card Worldline has announced that its network will be out of action for more than 4 hours on Sunday night. This will particularly affect people wishing to purchase fuel from petrol stations that aren’t staffed through the night or those wishing to make online purchases.

Worldline says that its network will be out of action from 0:15h to 4:30h on Monday morning. The downtime is due to an IT upgrade of the electronic banking system.

For the duration of the work to implement the upgrade Belgian card holders won’t be able to carry out electronic payments with their Bancontact, Maestro, Mastercard or Visa cards in the few shops that are open at that time, in online webstores or at petrol stations. Withdrawals from cash machines will also not be possible.

Worldline says that the work on its network is necessary in order for it to be able to guarantee and optimal service to those that use the electronic payment system.
