Chinese company creates 150 new jobs in Genk

The Chinese food and drink packaging company CPMC is to invest around 55 million euro in a production facility in the Limburg city of Genk. The factory that will be located on the Henry Fordlaan will lead to the creation of 150 new jobs.

The news of the investment first appeared in the daily ‘Het Belang van Limburg’ and has since been confirmed by the Mayor of Genk Wim Dries (Christian democrat, photo above).

The new factory will be built on a site owned by Illochroma Haoneng, a Chinese company that makes labels for cans and bottles. It is the intention that the two companies will work closely together.

Mr Dries told journalist that talks to bring the factory to Genk are at an advanced stage. The Mayor added that it is hoped that construction work on the factory will commence later this year.

CPMC is Asia’s biggest producer of two-piece cans. By opening a factory in Genk, the company will be closer to its European customers, including drinks producers and breweries in Flanders such as Moortgat, Martens and AB Inbev. The factory should open next year.

120 of the 150 new jobs will be production workers with 30 other mainly white collar posts also being created.
