Search continues for Belgian teenager missing in Australia
Police in Australia are continuing their search for an 18-year-old Belgian that has been missing since the end of May. As we reported on Friday no one has seen 18-year-old Théo Hayez from Oudergem (Brussels) for more than a week. He had been staying in a backpackers’ hostel in Byron Bay in the state of New South Wales. Staff at the hostel raised the alarm at the end of last week when Théo failed to check out. He was last seen leaving a bar/night club. Chief Inspector Matthew Kehoe of New South Wales police told journalists that “We believe that someone must have seen Théo after he left the night club”. Chief Inspector Kehoe has appeal to those that have any information of footage (for example from a dashcam) of the area where Théo Hayez disappeared to come forward.
Théo Wayez was last seen on 31 May when he left a night club in Byron Bay. In the early hours of 1 June he was active on WhatsApp. Since then there has been no trace of the 18-year-old. The Belgian Embassy in the Australian capital Canberra is in close contact with the police in Byron Bay.
He was also keen to stress that any information in connection with Théo Hayez’s disappearance could be relevant. The teenager has not withdrawn any money from the bank nor transferred any money from his account since he disappeared. His mobile telephone also appears to be no longer active.
