Sint-Truiden get the better of Standard

Sint-Truiden picked up their first points of the season with a 2-1 home victory against Standard de Liège on Sunday afternoon. After a somewhat sluggish start Alexandre de Bruyn put Sint-Truiden 1-0 up on 29 minutes. The home side extended their lead through Massoudi on 37 minutes. The half ended with Sint-Truiden two goals up.

Sint-Truiden came close to going 3-0 up early in the second half. However, an Mpoku penalty, awarded for handball inside the box, saw Standard pull one back on 58 minutes.

The visitors smelled blood and came close to equalising through Lestienne. However, he hit the bar and efforts by Carcela and Emond were saved by an excellent Sint-Truiden keeper Schmidt.  Schmidt was beaten by Cop in the closing minutes of the game. However, his teammate Endo produced what was a word-class sliding save to deny Standard.

In het slot van de wedstrijd was Schmidt dan toch eens geklopt toen Cop de bal naast de broek van de doelman stak. Despite 8 minutes of stoppage time being played Standard came no closer to equalising. The result sees Sint-Truiden take their first points of the season. Meanwhile, Standard have dropped points for the first time.
