Three Belgian holidaymakers perish in Italy

Three Belgian holidaymakers died in Italy this weekend. Two Belgians fell into a ravine in the Italian Alps, while a third Belgian was run down when he was cycling in southern Italy.

Two Belgian septuagenarians tumbled into a ravine and ended up dead in the Piedmont region of northern Italy.  The two were reported missing on Friday after they failed to return from a mountain walk.  Emergency services found their bodies near the town of Rassa yesterday evening.   It is thought they may have slipped on a hazardous path after taking a wrong turning.

Meanwhile in southern Italy a Belgian in his fifties, who was holidaying together with fellow cycling enthusiasts, was run down near the town of Lecce.  Italian media say he died of his injuries after being taken to hospital.
