Strike hits bus services in Flemish Brabant
Bus services in Flemish Brabant are subject to disruption due to industrial action by drivers that work for the Flemish public transport company De Lijn. The services that have been hit include some routes between towns and villages in Flemish Brabant and Brussels.
The drivers are unhappy that De Lijn in Flemish Brabant is running a normal weekday timetable today rather than a Saturday service. With a public holiday having fallen on Thursday, many people are taking a so-called “bridge day” between the public holiday and the weekend. Consequently the drivers believe that a reduced service would have sufficed. Moreover it would have given more drivers to chance to have a day off.
The bus depot where the drivers are taking action are in Dilbeek, to the west of Brussels and Asse to the northwest of the capital. The action has greatly impacted bus services in the Pajottenland area in the west of Flemish Brabant and De Lijn’s services in the west and north of Brussels.
Meanwhile, in the east of Flemish Brabant drivers are taking action at the Tielt and Tienen bus depots.
Passengers are advised to check De Lijn’s website to see if the bus they are hoping to catch is running.
