The warmest 15 February since records began

The Royal Metrological Institute (KMI) reports that that Friday 15 February has been the warmest 15 February since records began. KMI measured top temperatures of 18°C at its Ukkel (Brussels) Weather Centre early on Friday afternoon. This beats the previous record for 15 February that was set 21 years ago in 1998 by 0.8°C.

Reliable records of top temperatures on a given date have existed since 1901.

The VRT’s weatherman Frank Deboosere told VRT News that "Never before have we recorded such a high temperature at Ukkel so early in the season”.

"And we are noticing more and more day temperature records. There have already been 138 since 2000”.

At the same time far fewer records are being set for minimum temperatures. This shows clearly that the temperatures are really rising, also with regards to the extremes", Frank Deboosere added.
