Brussels universities test self-driving shuttle bus

Researchers at the Francophone and Dutch-speaking Brussels universities (ULB and VUB) are launching a project with a self-driving shuttle bus this Friday. The presentation will take place at the Brussels Health Campus in Jette.

The small shuttle bus will be searching its way on the university and hospital grounds for half a year, in a project to study the relation between humans and machines.

The Brussels Health Campus covers 32 hectares, welcoming hundreds of patients and visitors each day, which makes it an excellent place for the experiment. The public is very diverse, as the site also hosts a kindergarten, a high school, a primary school and a fitness centre, professor Lieselot Vanhaverbeke explains as promotor of the project. "All these players display different transport patterns."

The project is a cooperation between researchers of MOBI and SMIT (VUB) and LOUISE (VUB). They will bring together their present expertise.
