Belgian IS fighter and alleged "Raqqa butcher" arrested in Syria

A Belgian IS fighter has been apprehended in Syria, De Morgen reports. The Belgian was allegedly involved in financing the terror attacks in Paris and Belgium.

The man in question is Anouar Haddouchi. The judicial authorities have been investigating his involvement in the Brussels attacks in Zaventem and Maalbeek for some time, but he may also be involved in the Paris attacks.

The man is also known as "The Raqqa butcher" as he is thought to have executed over 100 people on the city's central square. It is not clear yet where he will face trial: in Syria, in France, or here in Belgium.
