Punch Powertrain intends to axe almost 200 jobs in Sint-Truiden

Punch Powertrain, a company manufacturing automatic gearboxes, has announced its intention to scrap 188 jobs at its plant in Sint-Truiden (Limburg).

The company assembles gearboxes for cars, but the Chinese owner has been confronted with poor figures, as the demand on the Chinese market has been slackening.

Punch Powertrain employs 1,100 people at present, but 172 blue-collar workers and 16 white-collar colleagues would have to go now. Still, trades unions still see a future for the factory, as they have a new contract for the French market, with the PSA concern which includes Peugeot, Citroën and Opel. However, this contract only applies to 2022 and 2023.
