First ESA-satellite photographs of Belgium

The first test photographs taken by the European Space agency’s Sentinel-1A satellite that was launched earlier this month feature Belgium, Namibia and Antarctica. The Satellite was launched from the ESA’s base at Kourou in French Guiana on 3 April. It is part of the European Space Agency’s Copernicus Programme.

The Copernicus Programme was launched to monitor the global environment, the atmosphere and the oceans.

Sentinel-1A is an observation satellite that will take photographs of the earth day and night. The satellite is currently taking test photographs. It will be another three months before the satellite is fully operational.

Among the first test photographs taken by the satellite are some of Belgium. Both Brussels and Antwerp on the photograph above.
