Police raid yet another football club

At the crack of dawn Belgian police on Wednesday raided seven premises as part of an investigation into money laundering and illegal shareholder constructions at football club Mouscron.  Prosecutors stress that this investigation is not linked to the match-fixing and money-laundering probe centring on football agent Veljkovic.

Mouscron club was raided as well as the homes of managers.  Three managers have been led away for questioning.  The Belgian FA and the Sports Arbitration Court received a visit too.

At issue is the ownership of the club.  It's thought that thanks to a construction a football agent was the proprietor and that is against Belgian law.  There is also suspected money-laundering.  Millions of euros are thought to have been laundered via off-shore constructions.

The investigation started last April and gained momentum following a complaint about match-fixing from KV Mechelen in June.
