Kompany’s coming home!
The Belgian international defender Vincent Kompany has announced that he is to become player coach of the team where he started his career, RFC Anderlecht. Earlier, Kompany announced that he is to leave Manchester City after 11 seasons. His decision to return to Anderlecht is a homecoming for a player that joined the club as a youth player at the age of 6 and played for the club’s youth teams before signing a professional contract with Anderlecht at the age of 17.
He spent three seasons with Anderlecht’s first team before leaving for a two year spell with the German club Hamburg. Vincent Kompany signed for Manchester City in 2008 and has been a firm favourite among fans of the English Champions.
In the second part of a letter to fans that he posted on his Facebook wall on Sunday morning the 33-year-old central defender said that he would take up the role of player-coach at RSC Anderlecht.
"I choose to be grateful for the past but remain ambitious and driven for the future. For the next three years, I will take up the role of player-manager of RSC Anderlecht," he added.
"It's the most passionate yet rational decision I've ever made. As a footballer, I was born and raised at Anderlecht. Since the age of six, I have been one with that club. A history of 34 league titles, they are second to none”.
"I want to share my knowledge with the next purple generations. With that, I will also put a bit of Manchester in the heart of Belgium."
