Mayor of Schaarbeek lodges complaint after being called a “filthy whore” during a council meeting

The Mayor of the Brussels municipality of Schaarbeek, Cécile Jodogne (Francophone federalist) has lodged a complaint after she was insulted from the public gallery during Wednesday evening’s meeting of the municipal council.

During what was a tense and heated council meeting one person present in the public gallery called Ms Jodogne a “filthy whore”. A little later she was told that she is “not beautiful, young and efficient enough”.

Ms Jodogne’s office told the press agency Belga that “We condemn the behaviour of these people in the strongest terms”. The Mayor’s office added that as it is important that the council meeting takes place and the public can attend to hear what their representatives decide, the Mayor let the meeting continue. “On Thursday, we decided to lodge a complaint".

The incident occurred during an important local council meeting on Wednesday evening, at which councillors were due to vote on the municipal budget. However, the vote could not take place because the socialist group on the council decided to leave the meeting and the necessary quorum was no longer present in the council chamber.
