Extra trains to the coast
The rail company’s spokesman Bart Crols told the VRT that “We are monitoring the situation in real time. If we see that a train arriving in, for example Ghent, is overcrowded, we have staff and rolling stock at hand to lay on an extra train. This is something that we have done already this morning in Ghent.”
The NMBS’s summer timetable already has 34 so-called “tourist trains” that mainly travel to and from the coast.
Since Tuesday two extra trains (one from Leuven and one from Brussels) have been running to the coast. Furthermore, two extra local trains have been laid on between the West Flemish city of Bruges and the resort of Knokke.
On Friday 9 extra trains will run to the coast in addition to the 34 tourist trains already scheduled.
