Chris Martin tovert lied over glimlach Julia Roberts uit zijn hoed: "Hij is breder dan de Nijl"
Op een gala in Los Angeles heeft Chris Martin in primeur een nieuw lied gezongen dat helemaal aan de iconische glimlach van Julia Roberts is gewijd. De tekst is doorspekt met verwijzingen naar haar films.
Het zijn al jaren goede vrienden, schrijft The Hollywood Reporter: Chris Martin en Julia Roberts, de beroemde Amerikaanse actrice die van haar glimlach haar handelsmerk heeft gemaakt.
Precies die glimlach inspireerde de frontman van Coldplay tot "Julia Roberts' smile", een lied dat hij vrijdagavond in primeur zong op het gala van amfAR in Los Angeles, waar de actrice eregast was.
Daarbij bewees Martin zijn kennis van de filmografie van Roberts door de tekst met titels van haar beroemdste films als "Pretty woman", "Notting Hill" en "Erin Brockovitch" te doorspekken. Opmerkelijk: het voor de hand liggende "Mona Lisa smile" vermeldde hij niet.
Naast het lied over de glimlach van Roberts zong Martin zijn eigen versie van "Oh, pretty woman" van Roy Orbison. Samen met gastheer James Corden waagde hij zich ook aan "Nothing compare 2 U" van Sinéad O'Connor, dat ze eveneens aan Roberts opdroegen.
