Identification stickers at all the country’s level crossings
The company responsible for managing Belgium’s rail infrastructure Infrabel is to install large identification stickers at all the country’s level crossings. The news appears in Tuesday edition of the daily ‘Het Nieuwsblad’. The stickers will provide details such as the number of the level crossing, the number of the rail track, the name of the street on which it is located and the name of the municipality.
The idea behind the sticker is to save precious time if an incident occurs.
The stickers will be stuck to the large posts that are already in place next to the level crossings. As well as the numbers of the level crossing and rail track, the stickers will also provide details of the street name and municipality as well as the telephone numbers of the emergency services.
Infrabel’s Thomas Baeken told VRT News “A car that breaks down, a lorry that sheds its load…We need to be able to act as quickly as possible when an incident occurs. This requires people to give very firm information to the emergency services. The quicker the information reaches us via the emergency services, the quicker we can act a prevent an incident from happening”.
There are around 1,700 level crossings in Belgium. The identifications stickers will be put in place at all of them over the next year.
