'Girl' not on the shortlist for "Best Non-English language film

Despite high expectations, the Flemish film ‘Girl’ is no longer in the running for an Oscar as best non-English language film. Girl failed to make it onto the short list of 9 films from which the 5 nominees will be taken. Girl, a film about a transgender ballerina, has been criticised in American film journals as the leading role isn’t played by a real transgender person. Nevertheless, the film has been nominated for a Golden Globe.
