Anderlecht fan dies during match against Cercle Brugge

There was particularly sad news after yesterday’s Anderlecht - Cercle Brugge fixture that the home team won 3 - 0. During the first half an Anderlecht supporter needed to be resuscitated after he became unwell.  The fan later died in hospital. Anderlecht head coach Brian Riemer was clearly affected by the news and spoke of "a sad evening".

News of the supporter's death only seeped through after the match. During halftime part of the main stand was closed to allow a medical intervention.

Anderlecht head coach Brian Riemer shared the sad news after the match and speaking in an interview with Eleven expressed his condolences.

"It's a sad night. One of our fans has passed away. He became unwell during the first half and later died in the hospital. Our thoughts are with the family. Soccer suddenly became irrelevant."
