Cyclist seriously injured in Knokke hit-and-run

A cyclist was badly injured in a hit-and-run in the seaside resort of Knokke-Heist (West Flanders) on Friday.  Once stopped the hit-and-run driver was found to be drunk.

The 53-year-old driver was stopped and arrested in Maldegem (East Flanders) and it soon became clear he had been drinking heavily.

The victim is an Afghan national in his late teens.  Public prosecutors say this is a serious case and the driver is set to appear before an examining magistrate soon.
