Wild police chase ends in crash

A police chase starting in East Flanders and ending in West Flanders, came to an end last night when the fleeing driver crashed into a police van. Three people got injured. There was also a second car fleeing the scene, three passengers were apprehended. 

The chase started when a motorist ignored a police check in De Pinte, near Ghent. The car with French number plate managed to keep the police at bay until the vehicle crashed into a police van in Deerlijk, West Flanders, at the exit of the E17 Motorway. The driver and two police officers sustained light injuries. It is not clear why exactly the man wanted to get away. 

A second car, also with French number plate, also tried to get away, but could be intercepted. The car also had a French number plate and took a different route. However, police were able to stop the vehicle, arresting the driver and two passengers. All three have a French passport. An investigation has been started.
