The Champions are back on song

In the first on Sunday’s three Belgian First Division games the League Champions Club Brugge enjoyed a 3-0 home win against Standard de Liège. The win follows a recent spell of poor league form for Club in which they had taken just 6 points from  their last 7 games. The result sees Standard drop out of the top six.

All three of Club Brugge’s goals came in the first half. Club Brugge’s Stefano Denswil opened the scoring on 7 minutes after a corner had caught the Standard defence on the hop. Ten minutes later Dennis made it 2-0 to Club thanks to a precision pass from Vanaken. It was pretty much over and out for Standard ten minutes before half time when Sofyan Amrabat took advantage of a poorly-headed clearance by Zihno Vanheusden to put the home side 3-0 up.

The second half saw Club Brugge stand their ground against a Standard side that was unconvincing to say the least. The visitors went a man down when Moussa Djenepo was sent off for his second bookable offence of the game on 89 minutes.

The result sees Club Brugge move up to second place with 34 points from 17 games. Standard is 7th with 26 points.
